It's Behind You NODA Nomination

18 June 2016

We were really excited that our pantomime Aladdin was nominated for the NODA "It's Behind You" award at the NODA Awards ceremony this year. Our congratulations go to writer/director Kate Hannam for this recognition of her great achievement. This follows on from our previous nominations for best lead in Sweet Charity, best panto for Jack and the Beanstalk.

DIRECTORS REQUIRED!

03 June 2014

The Quay Players are an SE1-based amateur dramatic group who perform two musical shows a year at The Greenwood Theatre, a 450-seat capacity venue in Weston Street, SE1.

We need a talented director (to work side by side with our very talented musical director!) for our pantomime in January 2015. The panto - Sleeping Beauty - has been specially written for the group by Ian McFarlane a professional West End writer/director, who also wrote our last successful panto, Jack and the Beanstalk.

We are also looking for a director for our July 2015 show - Sister Act - which will also be at The Greenwood.

If you are interested in directing either show and would like to know more about the Quay Players please email info@quayplayers.org.uk in the first instance.

Addams Family audition dates announced.

11 March 2014

Auditions for our next summer show, the Addams Family, will be held on the 11th of March.

The auditions will be held on Tuesday the 11th of March at St. Anne's Hall, with extra auditions taking place on the 4th for those that can't make the 11th.

As usual, auditions will be held behind closed doors with our very friendly audition panel of three - including the Director and MD.

The first rehearsal for the Addams Family takes place on the 25th of February. The Musical Director, Mark Smith, will introduce the show, and we will all have a chance to start learning the music for the audition pieces. See you there!

The Greenwood Theatre is a huge success!

22 December 2013

Our first show in the Greenwood was a huge success!

We broke our box office records, the cast had a fantastic time in the spacious modern venue, and most importantly - the audience loved it!

See you there in July for the Addams Family!

The Quay Players are moving house!

31 July 2013

The Quay Players are pleased to announce that our pantomime will this year be performed at a new venue, the Greenwood Theatre near London Bridge.

This is an exciting move for the Quay Players, and comes after a run of successful, sell-out, shows. The stage is much larger and will provide us with greater opportunities to show off how talented we are!

The Quay Players are delighted to announce that we’ve been nominated for a top NODA award! Our July 2012 production, Beauty and the Beast, has been nominated for the Constance Power Trophy, which honours the ‘society most worthy of encouragement’ within London amateur dramatics societies.
We’re immensely proud to have been nominated for our 15th anniversary production, which fell within the same year that we were awarded charitable status for our services to the local community. Congratulations to the brilliant Director, Julianne Palmer-Mitchell, the fabulous cast and everyone involved with the production.
The award will be announced at the London Region Conference on Sunday 7th July, along with other NODA Awards for our region. Please keep your fingers crossed for us!

Beauty and the Beast cast announced

1 February 2012

The Quay Players are delighted to announce the cast of our upcoming show, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. The team of directors were faced with some tough decisions due to the high standard of all auditionees, but eventually managed to cast what will be a fantastic show. Read more about the show or book your tickets.

A masterclass in acting through song

25 January 2012

The second of the Quay Player’s professional workshops to be funded by our Southwark Community Fund award was a masterclass in acting through song. The workshop was led by Onur Orkut, lecturer in acting at LIPA.

Each attendee was given one-on-one tuition in which they could explore the acting and vocal techniques needed in order to make a song believable for an audience. The workshop was a great success, with members and non-members alike raving about how useful the techniques were – and how emotional they felt both singing and watching others perform!

The West End comes to the East End

21 January 2012

The Quay Players were granted a Community Fund award from Southwark council, allowing us to hold performance workshops for the local community. The first of these was a West End workshop, led by Mark Dickinson whose professional theatrical credits include Disney’s High School Musical (original UK cast), The Drowsy Chaperone (Novello Theatre, London), Les Miserables (Queen’s Theatre, London), Beauty and the Beast (Original cast).

The free workshop gave the Quay Players and attendees from the local community a chance to experience what a real West End rehearsal is like – from breathing and improvisation exercises, to staging a song from Beauty and the Beast using the original West End choreography.
